THE BIG PICTURE: Phil Hill has assembled a snapshot of the LMS market for the largest online education providers as of early 2013. Interestingly, the University of Phoenix--the largest with nearly 300,000 students--continues to use "homegrown" solutions. Incumbents Blackboard and Pearson are still sticking around and holding onto existing education networks, although newcomers like Instructure's Canvas are certainly creeping and taking over at institutions like the Mississippi Virtual Community College.
