The Biggest Education Technology Acquisitions of 2012

Feb 5, 2013

MAKE IT RAIN: Last year saw 48 acquisitions in the edtech space, with the biggest buys understandably made by publishing juggernauts. GigaOM has a nice summary of these, which only account for a small slice of the 2,277 overall tech M&As tracked by CB Insights. John Wiley & Sons made the most acquisitions after buying Efficient Learning Systems for $24 million, Inscape Publishing for $85 million, and Deltak Edu for $220 million. However, Pearson plunked down the most coin on a single deal--spending $650 million to buy Embanet Compass, provider of logistical services for starting online learning programs. Not bad!
