Jan 15, 2013

COURTING THE 1 (PERCENT): The world's richest man, Carlos Slim (who Forbes reports as worth $77.5 billion), is the latest float to join the Khan philanthro-parade. Forbes writes that the Carlos Slim Foundation has pledged an undisclosed amount and "all the necessary resources" to bring Khan Academy to Mexico and Latin America. The agreement is sparse on the details of this arrangement, other then setting April 2013 as the target date by which over 1,000 Khan Academy videos will be translated into Spanish. The Slim Foundation will also invest an additional 4 billion pesos ($300 million) over the next three years to "support the connectivity, development of digital libraries and providing equipment to schools."
