Moving Teachings: Crowdsourced Learning from Fellow Commuters

PARK AND RIDE... AND LEARN: Here's an interesting alternative to reading the Kindle or plugging into your smartphone on that next bus ride. Moving Teachings is a web app that allows bus riders to offer or register for "mini-classes" around whatever collective knowledge exists among riders on a given route. It strikes us as a web 2.0 tool for scheduling intelligent conversations with fellow commuters but you get a little more say over who's talking about what. So far the offerings -- limited to Portland, OR riders -- include conversational Portuguese from a Brazilian expat and breathing techniques from a yogi. There's even prerequisite suggested reading. The alpha site isn't quite ready to accommodate a group of 7th grade urbanites, but offering learning opportunities in everyday public spaces is a major step towards meaningful learning in and outside of the classroom.
