KICKSTART YOUR 2013 with a couple of Kickstarter projects that have caught our attention. As unabashed Maker enthusiasts, we're titillated to learn that a team of three in San Diego have successfully raised the funds needed for a $520 RoBo 3D Printer. (That's a quarter of the price of the MakerBot Replicator 2.) And we're cheering hard for the Tornado Maker: Real Science, Real Learning campaign from Brooklyn-based Outthink Inc. This team of scientists, educators, game developers and moms is set on creating a series of games to cover the science behind violent storms, bionic machines, and biological functions. (The first game promises to explain how tornadoes are formed better than your local news station meteorologist.)
