Manhattan Museum of Mathematics' Calculated Opening

Manhattan Museum of Mathematics' Calculated Opening

Dec 19, 2012

NOT A TYPO: NYC tourists and museum enthusiasts may want to read the fine print carefully on their next museum adventure -- the world-famous New York MoMA will soon have a bit of competition for its iconic acronym. The Manhattan Museum of Mathematics, or MoMath for short, just opened its doors in Madison Square Park. The NewScientist CultureLab reports the museum has math baked into every square inch of its infrastructure. Co-founded by Cindy Lawrence and Glen Whitney, MoMath is the culmination of Math Midway, a travelling booth that started at the 2009 World Science Festival in New York. The grand opening was Saturday, December 15. Find all the details on the MoMath site. And if you want to engage in a little math play, try chewing on these acorns.
