'Reflect and Connect' Wants to Jumpstart Your #PLN

Feel like you're in edu-isolation?
We've got your back.

Many educators will spend the rest of this year in a professional silo—buoyed by a round of observations and perhaps winning the rep-our-school-at-[conference name] lottery. EdSurge is humbly hacking away at this problem with the beta release of Reflect and Connect. Our goal is to equip the most isolated, least-supported educators with a way to jumpstart their professional learning network and to empower the most connected and technically-savvy to make themselves more visible.

Getting started is simple. Create a Twitter account if you don’t have one. Then take this five-minute assessment to reflect on your edtech needs (Mission Statement, Technology Planning, Common Core, etc.). In return, you’ll receive:

  • A short list of educator Twitter handles to connect with, filtered by professional needs;
  • A list of relevant Twitter chats to can connect through, also filtered by professional needs;
  • EdSurge articles to inform and provoke your thoughts around different needs as you connect.

Most importantly, Reflect and Connect is built for and powered by the educator community: The more people that take the assessment, the easier it is for educators to connect with new people and ideas.

We can’t tell you how and where this ride will take you —the needs, thoughts and feelings of educators are far too diverse to standardize (wink, wink)— but we can provide a set of training wheels so you don’t have to stay at home while the rest of the ‘hood soaks up some #connectED goodness.

If you or a colleague have been anxious to break down silos but just haven’t found the time to get on the Twitter bandwagon, consider Reflect and Connect as a great starting point for professionally developing your practice well beyond school and district walls.
