Teachers Report Student Sleepiness Limits Instruction

Teachers Report Student Sleepiness Limits Instruction

Jun 27, 2014

NAPTIME FOR ALL: U.S. students finally may be number one worldwide--in sleepiness. According to both the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study and the Progress in International Reading Study, over 70% of U.S. students are in classrooms where teachers reported disruption from student sleepiness, although American students get more sleep than many in other nations. Some point to heavy technology use as the culprit. Others propose later school start times, especially for teens. We propose a national siesta. Or figuring out a way to teach through dreams. Hat tip to EdWeek for catching the report.
