SMOCs Meet SPOCs in a "Post-MOOC" Era

Sep 30, 2013

LEARN TO EDUSPEAK: Is it R2T, RTT or RTTT? The Hechinger Report made a fine case about "how 'edu-speak' leaves too many parents behind." Frankly, we're having trouble staying on top of the lingo as well. The latest addition comes from Harvard professor Robert Lue, who believes "we're already in a post-MOOC era" and has coined a new term, "SPOCs" (small, private online courses) for classes that will be capped at tens or hundreds of students. This comes just a month after professors at University of Texas at Austin gave birth to SMOCs (synchronous massive online classes). Any guess on what's next?
