Desire2Learn Acquires Degree Compass

Jan 24, 2013

DEGREE COMPASS: Acquired by Desire2Learn, whose $80M Series A round last fall sent shockwaves 'round the edtech community. The terms of the deal were undisclosed. Developed at Austin Peay State University and funded with a $1M grant from the Gates Foundation, Degree Compass offers a virtual counseling tool that helps students complete their degrees on time. The system analyzes high school transcripts and test scores, and compares them with results from previous users, in order to generate personalized recommendations for what courses the student should take. As students progresses, the system will adapt and revise course suggestions. VentureBeat reports that Degree Compass' developers and data scientists will join the Desire2Learn team.
