The News Literacy Project empowers educators to teach middle and high school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age. We are at an exciting inflection point for our work, and we are making critical investments to rapidly scale our growth and impact. We are seeking a Vice President of K-12 Engagementwho can lead these efforts. This is a great opportunity for you to expand the use of our resources on a national level and ensure more students learn news literacy today. We’re looking for someone who can have an immediate and meaningful impact on our work, andwho can combine our marketing, social media and district partnership efforts under a cohesive, data-driven strategy for scaled growth. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and will be a member of the executive team.

About the position

While NLP is working toward systemic change — ensuring all students are taught news literacy skills before graduation — we are also working to make news literacy education available for as many students as possible today. To that end, this executive position will oversee the marketing, district partnershipand user support teams, with the primary goal of unifying these services to drive continuous growth of our direct impact metrics (metrics measuring the number of educators, students and districts using our resources). Key to this expansion work is our new partnership with Clever, arostering platform for schools. Specifically, in this job, you will:

  • Be responsible for reaching NLP’s ambitious growth metrics focused on district coverage, educator users and students taught.
  • Serve on the executive team,offering insight and perspective to the larger organizational strategy and decision-making.
  • Directly manage (currently) the Senior Director of Marketing, two District Partnership Managers and a Product Support Analyst.
  • Useour independent B2B and B2C strategies, while collaborating with Clever’s marketing team, to manage and coordinate the execution of marketing, social media, district partnershipsand user support servicesin order to create a comprehensive growth strategy. The growth strategy will focuson NLP’s key state markets as well as markets across the country.
  • Collaborate with other executive leaders when the K-12 Engagement team’scapacity is needed to support other organizational initiatives, such as National News Literacy Week, the National News Literacy Conference and recruitment for the District Fellowship program.

About you

This position will directly impact many thousands of educators and hundreds of thousands of students in schools across the country,playing a pivotal role in shaping and achieving our organizational strategy. As the Vice President of K-12 Engagement, you will partner with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure that NLP reaches its ambitious direct impact (district, educator and student) metrics each year.Successful candidates will have all or most of the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree or exceptional, relevant professional experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in teamandsales/growth strategy management.
  • Experience in either marketing or sales management.
  • Experience managing social media strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, manage and execute a successful, multilayered marketing, social media and school district relationship strategy that expands user growth across an expansive geographic area.
  • Experiencein successfully scaling the use of a digital curricular product byleveraging a partnership with a data-integrator or learning management system such as Clever or Schoology.
  • Experience working in public educationis preferred.

Compensation and benefits

The salary for this position is $120,000 to $130,000, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Our Interview Process

Candidates selected to participate will be asked to complete a skills assessment (1-2 hours) and up to three rounds of virtual interviews (2-3 hours total). Interviews are conducted one-on-one and in group settings. Finalists will be asked to provide references.
