Source Acquisition Controller

inquirED - Remote - Full time

Diverse, engaging content is at the core of inquirED’s approach to high-quality instruction. The inquiry-based learning experiences we design are centered on sources that students investigate and explore with support from their teachers.

The Source Acquisition Controller will work closely with the Senior Source Curator to enable and directly operate a full spectrum of content acquisition activities. Acquisition activities will include: pursuing and acquiring sources from external partners; building relationships with potential source partners; negotiating and licensing acquired content from external providers; maintaining and optimizing our internal database of sources and permission, and the acquisition process overall; ensuring content acquired is in alignment with inquirED’s standards for high-quality sources.

Regular responsibilities:

  • Negotiation of licensing terms and financial agreements in inquirED’s favor, and preparation of contracts accordingly; meticulous record keeping of financial agreements, invoices, and stages of source permissions
  • Exploring and deeply understanding the implications of various licensing terms, while supporting team members in understanding and strategizing the implications of specific licensing terms and conditions
  • Collaboration and consultation with Asset Manager and/or Sr. Source Curator to execute on purchasing decisions
  • Monitoring the use of sources and communicating if usage risks come into conflict with license terms; considerations include editorial adherence to adaptation rules, expiration dates, and any contractual agreements impacted by source incorporation
  • Managing the accurate completion and upkeep of source data and metadata fields within our proprietary infrastructure, while evaluating and implementing potential improvements to systems, tools, and supports; identify new metadata needs and how they connect to internal platforms and systems
  • Initiation of direct, solution-oriented communication with all stakeholders throughout the curation and acquisition process; includes escalating concerns, finalizing purchasing decisions, and problem-solving process challenges

Requirements:

  • Experience in contract negotiation, agreements, and licensing, while adhering to budgetary constraints and workplace priorities
  • Preferred knowledge of K-12 content and established network of educational content providers; highly relational and persistent with source partners
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Familiarity with data, source, or database management, and experience with solution-oriented workflow development and iteration
  • Ability to meticulously keep records, set priorities, organize workload, and juggle multiple responsibilities to meet ambitious deadlines; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and infrastructures
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment in circumstances involving ambiguity and nuance
  • A willingness to be scrappy, creative, and unconventional
