Dr. Catherine Atkinson, an experienced classroom teacher, edtech instructor and researcher, contributes to ISTE+ASCD as a project researcher, allowing her to continue advocating for meaningful learning with technology in K-12 education. Her commitment to this cause stems from her time as a classroom teacher where she observed technology’s underutilized potential for fostering student empowerment and agency.
Catherine’s passion for qualitative research is driven by her desire to understand the lived experiences of teachers, students and families regarding technology's role in teaching and learning. Her research and publications explore the integration of meaningful technology in K-12 and teacher education, as well as social-emotional learning. Catherine holds an Ed.D. with a specialization in Technology Integration in K-16 Education from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in Educational Technology from California State University Fullerton and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California Santa Barbara.
