Here are a few guidelines:

  • Your piece should offer fresh, thoughtful commentary on issues relevant to education technology written by someone who has unique expertise or experience. The writing should be accessible, compelling and jargon-free. You’ll find great examples of sponsored articles here, here, here and here.
  • Strive to inform and engage, but don’t advertise. Offering useful and actionable information in a lively and readable style will do far more to promote your brand than an old-fashioned marketing pitch. While it’s perfectly acceptable for you to mention your company’s work, try to broaden the focus to reference developments or trends happening in the industry and community. The more authentic and impartial your article, the more impact it will have.
  • Readers like engaging stories. Whenever possible, describe real people in real situations. Be specific. Offer details.
  • We like to keep articles to 700 words or so—give or take. They should include links to topics, research and other specific items that you’re discussing. If you cite a study, for example, please include a link to it.
  • Please include a brief bio and headshot for your bylined author, as well as any links to his or her work (Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, personal blog, etc.)
  • Artwork: If you have photos or graphics you’d like included with your piece, please send them in separate files. We’ll do our best to include them, but can’t promise.
  • The Sponsored Sidebar: If there is a short list of products or services you'd like to mention—but including them in the main narrative would be too heavy handed—we may be able to highlight them in a separate sidebar of up to 75 words or 5 bullet points. You’ll find examples embedded in articles here and here.

The Process

Before you begin your writing process, we’ll assign you an editor from our sponsored content team to offer you support, help you focus your article, ensure it meets our editorial standards, and help it shine on EdSurge. When we receive your first draft, we’ll get back to you within a week with initial feedback and suggested edits. Sometimes it takes several drafts to get a piece just right.

You retain copyright of the piece and grant us a nonexclusive right to run the piece online or in any future collections of pieces. You grant us the right to run the piece exclusively for 15 days. If you repost it, please include a line that says the piece originally ran on EdSurge, with a link to our site.
