State of Technology

Making Moves with Wifi: Technology integration is a major priority in Westfield Public Schools. The district has undergone majorupgrades for Wifi access in schools. Currently, there is Wifi in every classroom at the high school level, with plans to have full accessin all middle school classrooms by 2015-16 and in elementary schools by 2016-17.

Goal-Oriented: Westfield’s efforts to improve Wifi access will support the district’s ability to expand the BYOD (Bring Your OwnDevice) pilot program that is currently in motion at the high school. Additionally, the district is interested in exploring a 1:1 initiativewith cohorts of students using iPads or Chromebooks. All of these devices will support a model that incorporates flipped instructionwith the use of digital portfolios for students.

Students as Digital Ambassadors: Westfield High School has a Digital Ambassadors Program, where students support their peersand teachers in using technology. The ambassadors provide this support through a sort of school “genius bar” at Westfield HighSchool’s Digital Learning Center. They also share best practices via a Twitter feed and on the school’s website.
