Georgia Charter School Seeks Reading Tool to Build Mastery

This school is looking for a curriculum product that helps students build mastery in basic reading and that can support data-driven instruction.

State: Georgia Number of Students: 27,293
School Type: Charter School Free and Reduced Lunch: 84.0%
Grade Level: K-12 English Language Learners: 13.0%

School Context

This is a proposed K-8 charter school that seeks to offer families the option of a college preparatory education with a dedicated design thinking curriculum and computer coding program, which are two components of a comprehensive computer science curriculum beginning in kindergarten. They are implementing a flex model blended learning environment.

State of Technology

They are determining what technology to include in their model for a K-8 school. Students need to be able to move at their own pace and work towards skill mastery. Specifically looking for tools that are well-suited for 45 minute literacy station rotation where students are working independently.

Currently, there is no solution.

Tech Needs & Requirements

They are looking for a literacy program where students are self paced, acquiring isolated and integrated literacy skills. They would like a program that fosters independence but can be monitored by the teacher so that he or she can provide help when needed. They would like the tool to track student progress and to be as adaptive as possible, allowing students to progress through the content as they master skills, but they would consider looking at assignable content as well. Ideally, the teacher would be as hands-off as possible. Integration with NWEA Map testing data or other forms of data to enrich how the tool adapts is a nice-to-have, but is not a requirement.

Students will work independently and the tool should help them determine the sequence and scope. Students do not necessarily need access to their data at this time.

Teachers will have as much of a hands-off approach as possible, while being able to change path is preferred. Teachers will need access to data.

The tool must be aligned to state standards/common core, allow students to go at their own pace and give teachers access to students' assessment and progress data. The school will provide K-3 students with access to a class-set of Chromebooks and grades 4-8 will be 1:1 with Chromebooks. Progress data is preferred and integration with MAPS is preferred but not required. The tool should integrate with Illuminate but not required.
