School Context

This school will use blended learning and socratic seminars and discussions as its primary methods for instruction. Students at this school won't be constrained to traditional classrooms, but will participate in a variety of learning opportunities. Students will learn partially online, collaboratively, and will have face- time with teachers in some subjects. The school also focuses on non-cognitive skill development as they seek to teach the whole student.

State of Technology

The administrator is looking for an online math program that will help students learn, practice and excel in math skills. While their school model will incorporate project-based learning, and cross curricular activities, students will need to master basic skills. The school wants to make sure to give students as much agency as possible to select and use content that is relevant and this will support a student-centered environment.

Currently, there is no solution.

Tech Needs & Requirements

The administrator is looking for a personalized (possibly adaptable) math tool that can deliver a complete math courses in multiple subject areas. They would like engaging content to be provided through the tool. They feel strongly that the tool should be intuitive enough for students to work through content on their own and teachers can act like a coach. Ideally, they would like the tool to be able to be customized as well if the basic progression of learning does not match the school's vision. This tool should be more proactive than reactive, not an intervention tool, but robust enough that students should be able to work independently on the content. They are hoping that students who master content can easily jump ahead to a more challenging assignment or course, whereas students that are not having success can retake and retest as much as they need. This tool should be intuitive, and the learning curve for both students and coaches should be minimal.

Students should demonstrate mastery and the tool should suggest what the student should work on, however students could be able to set their own goals.

Teachers will act like a coach. Students will largely be in charge of their own learning and teachers will be available for help if a student needs it.

The tool must have a robust Math content, minimal learning curve, be engaging and proactive (not simply an intervention tool), be personalized or adaptive - able to meet students where they are and help them progress based on their skill level, and content should be delivered asynchronously.

The school allows bring your own devices and provides mostly Chromebooks. Students will need to demonstrate mastery of the content. A standard set of reports will be fine, as this school is not as concerned with data as it is with teacher project-based learning and teaching the whole child. The tool must integrate with Google apps.
