UniversityNow: $17.3 million in Series B round to San Francisco-based UniversityNow Inc., led by University Ventures Fund and Bertelsmann AG, with earlier investors Kapor Capital, Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Greylock Partners participating. To date, the company has raised $21.5 million. UNow joins a host of other online services tackling the skyrocketing cost of postsecondary education, most notably edX, Udacity and Coursera. But UNow's not free: The company runs New Charter University, an online college launched just this April, which charges a flat rate of $199 per month, for 4-month terms. Its degree offerings are limited, something CEO and co-founder hopes to address with this cash influx. More from Wall Street Journal and press release.
