Sophia Learning: Acquired by Capella Education Company, a provider of online, accredited higher education through its subsidiary, Capella University for an undisclosed amount. In January 2011 Capella became a majority investor in Sophia, a platform where a community of users can watch and contribute tutorials across a variety of subjects. This deal closes the loop neatly: Sophia was founded by former Capella vice president, Don Smithmier. Smithmier recently stepped down as CEO but remains an advisor, Yahoo reports.
