KinderTown releases search data: what parents want in educational apps

Jul 25, 2012

KINDERSIGHTS: Educational app directory/curator KinderTown has released data about the how's and what's when it comes to looking for kid-friendly apps. Based on more than 120,000 recent searches on its Kindertown app, the numbers reveal age to be the most popular search criteria, with most users looking for apps appropriate for 3 to 5 year-olds. The folks also find that "marketing an app as universal likely isn't an effective differentiator" as most searches did not specify a platform. Language and math apps are the most sought after--but also the most competitive areas. (The report dives further to look at micro-categories and concepts with each subject.) So if you're looking for a less crowded space, try, say, social studies or science.
