PERSIST & PERSPIRE: What does it take to survive as an edupreneur? Union Square Venture's Fred Wilson and Rocketship CEO John Danner offered their thoughts--on the same day. Said Wilson during his guest appearance on EdStartup101: “We should compete with the existing education system as opposed to sell to it.” (GigaOM has a summary of his main points here.) Danner grouped the companies that have made it so far into three categories: the slow-growth, grind-it-out type (Dreambox); the “subsidized growth” companies that take advantage of federal subsidies (Education Elements and eSpark Learning); and the direct-to-consumer players (Edmodo, Class Dojo, Motion Math).
