Gamedesk: $3.8 million grant to Los Angeles, CA-based non-profit Gamedesk from AT&T, the largest contribution so far in its Aspire Initiative for education. (Since 2008, AT&T had put $100 million toward Aspire; in mid-March, AT&T announced it is expanding Aspire with an additional $250 million contribution over five years.) The Gamedesk funding will support: 1) the establishment of a physical "classroom of the future" to research and test learning products; 2) creation of an "online portal" that will act as a library and clearinghouse for quality digital content. Developed over the years from research conducted at the University of Southern California, Gamedesk has created a number of learning games and outreach programs for at-risk students in the Los Angeles region.
