GROWING THE RANKS: Private efforts to grow the number of math and science teachers are taking root, too. A campaign called 100Kin10 spearheaded by Carnegie Corporation of New York, Opportunity Education and NewSchools Venture Fund is rallying partners to commit to preparing, recruiting and retaining 100,000 math and science teachers over the next decade. Twenty-eight organizations have signed up so far; $8.5 million (of $20 million goal) has been raised.
