Excelligence Buys Pre-K Curriculum and 'The Letter People' Literacy Program

May 7, 2019

CAN YOU DIG IT: Excelligence Learning Corp., a Monterey, Calif.-based provider of educational tools and services to early childhood and elementary school teachers and parents, has bought a pre-K curriculum and a literacy program from Abrams Learning Trends for an undisclosed amount.

The sale marks Abrams’ exit from the business, according to a statement Sunday. Founded in 1985, Excelligence plans to incorporate the Develop, Inspire, Grow—or DIG—curriculum and “The Letter People” literacy program into its Frog Street Press subsidiary, which provides materials for children up to 5 years old. “The Letter People” also inspired a PBS TV series in the 1970s.

Excelligence claims to develop, make, distribute and sell over 20,000 educational products and teaching services primarily to early childhood learning centers, elementary schools, parent-teacher associations and consumers. The company previously bought products marketer Really Good Stuff Inc. in 2016 and was itself bought by Brentwood Associates in 2015.
