Australian Startup Raises $8.5 Million to Expand Platform for Hosting MOOCs

OPEN TO CASH: OpenLearning, an Australian startup that’s developing a platform for hosting MOOCS, has raised $8.5 million, according to news outlet The Australian Financial Review.

The round was led by Malaysian companies Prestariang Berhad and Paramount Corporation Berhad. The company’s co-founder and chief executive told the news outlet that Malaysia is a “‘very important market’” for the company. The news outlet reports that OpenLearning will use the new funds to continue building its business in Australia and Malaysia, and then to possibly expand into other markets in Southeast Asia.

To date, the 5-year-old company has raised a total of $13.7 million.
