Europe’s Newest Edtech Investor, Brighteye, Closes €50 Million Fund

Nov 1, 2017

WIDE AWAKE: The Bright Eyes from America (Omaha, Nebraska, to be exact) gave us hits like “First Day of My Life,” “Lua” and “Let’s Not Shit Ourselves.” The one from Europe will invest in early-stage education technology startups. Based in Luxembourg and advised by a Parisian firm, Brighteye Ventures has closed a €50 million (approximately US $58 million) fund, which will support seed, Series A and B rounds for products serving K-12 and postsecondary learners.

The fund aims to lead rounds for companies based in Europe and Israel, and co-invest alongside “smart partners in the US.” It will chip in “between €500,000 and €3 million per round in 20 companies over the next three years,” according to the release.

The group has participated in two deals: learning game developer Lightneer’s $5 million seed round, and an $8 million Series C round for children’s digital book subscription startup, Epic!
