LMS Market Update: No Surprises as Canvas Continues Capturing More Higher-Ed Clients

May 16, 2017

LMS MARKET UPDATE: Few folks follow learning management systems as closely as Michael Feldstein and Phil Hill, and the duo behind e-Literate have released an update to the map of “LMS Market Share for US & Canadian Higher Ed Institutions.”

Canvas continues capturing more institutions at the expense of incumbent market leaders such as Blackboard (mostly through customers leaving ANGEL, not Blackboard Learn) and Pearson (which is shuttering its LearnStudio platform at the end of the year). On the up-and-coming is Schoology, an LMS that first focused on the K-12 market, may get its own dedicated band in the visualization.

The findings largely corroborate the trends shared in the Spring 2017 LMS data set by Edutechnica, which also regularly tracks the uptake of LMSs in U.S. colleges and universities.
