New Profit Dishes Out $1M to 7 Organizations in Personalized Learning Initiative

Apr 17, 2017

PERSONALIZED LEARNING INITIATIVE: Venture philanthropy nonprofit, New Profit has plenty of dollars to dish. Its latest beneficiaries are part of a newly-launched Personalized Learning Initiative, an education effort focusing on personalized learning and social entrepreneurship. Funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the four-year program aims to provide “unrestricted capital and strategic support” to seven organizations and entrepreneurs working to scale-up personalized learning models.

The seven recipients are: Highlander Institute, imBlaze, iNACOL, PowerMyLearning, The Learning Accelerator, Transcend, and Valor Collegiate Academies. Each will receive an unrestricted $1 million grant, and a New Profit partner will join each group’s board of directors to provide strategic advising.

According to an announcement from New Profit, the funded models will center around implementing personalized learning curriculums; tools or platforms for teachers and students; policy efforts; as well as technical assistance for districts trying to implement personalized learning.
