Student-Employer Matchmaking Startup Stirs Privacy Concerns

Apr 4, 2017

SNEAKY HANDSHAKE? A startup that aims to connect college students and employers, and backed by $34 million in venture funding, has raised privacy concerns after some students said they were not aware their information was available on the platform. Within three hours of creating an account on Handshake, Inside Higher Ed got access to more than 47,700 profiles across six universities. The company and its partner schools affirm that no profile is available unless students explicitly agree. Clearer terms of service, both sides agree, could clear up the confusion.
