Chemistry App Receives $700,000 SBIR Grant to Track and Adapt to Student Progress

Mar 13, 2017

ALCHEMIE, an edtech startup that builds game-based learning tools for higher education, has received $700,000 from the National Science Foundation's Small Business Innovation Research [SBIR] grant program. The Troy, Mich.-based company makes five mobile apps focusing on chemistry education. A press announcement reports that this grant money will go towards hiring staff and further developing the company’s machine learning platform, Epiphany, that “makes the apps respond to individual student use and track their progress."

The $700,000 grant is the second phase of Alchemie's SBIR grant. An initial amount of $150,000 was awarded in January 2016, and $30,000 was awarded in June 2016.
