Khan and Pixar Team Up to Bring Free Storytelling Lessons to Teachers

Feb 15, 2017

THE INCREDIBLES: Khan Academy and Pixar Animation Studios are releasing a new set of online lessons centered around the art of storytelling. The lessons, part of Khan Academy’s Pixar in a Box series, include videos, activities, and hand-ons exercises. Students learn directly from Pixar filmmakers—including “Up” director Pete Docter, “Inside Out” story artist Domee Shi, “Ratatouille” animator Sanjay Patel—who share pro-tips to help students create characters and worlds of their own. “We hope that by sharing how we tell stories, we’ll inspire students all over the world to tell their own stories,” director Pete Docter says.

Other courses in this series cover more technical skills including rendering and animation (which former EdSurge engineer Brady Fukumo explored and reviewed in detail).

The introduction to storytelling is the first of six new lessons set to be released by Khan throughout 2017. Like all content on Khan Academy, the lessons are free and come with a guide for educators.
