FutureLearn Brings Social Learning MOOC to US Universities

THE BRITISH ARE COMING: FutureLearn, the online course platform from U.K.-based Open University, has notched deals with five U.S. colleges: American University, Colorado State University, Penn State University, Purdue University and University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. Confirmed courses include two from Penn State (covering environmental science and geography) and four from Purdue (on “Communicating complex information,” body weight, introduction to R for data science and persuasive communication).

Since its launch in October 2013, FutureLearn has partnered with more than 100 universities around the globe, claiming five million registered users and more than 13 million course enrollments. The platform boasts a “unique approach to social learning” that incorporates live commenting features and the ability to follow fellow learners.
