READY FOR A FIGHT: Congress is back in session, and one of its first battles of the term will be over Trump’s pick for Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos. Her confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate is scheduled for next Wednesday, and Democrats have cited her as one of eight Trump nominees they plan to oppose.
Expect debate about her track record as an advocate for charter schools in Michigan. And lawmakers are sure to quiz her about her views on a range of timely (and thorny) issues, including for-profit colleges.
Nominees need at least 51 votes in the Senate to confirm her nomination, and Republicans hold a clear majority.
