ABA English Raises $13.7M to Expand English-Teaching Films to Even More Countries

Jun 8, 2016

AMERICAN AND BRITISH ACADEMY ENGLISH (ABA English),a Barcelona-based company that teaches English through videos in a so-called "contextual method," has raised $13.7 million (€12 million) in growth capital from Kennet Partners, which led the round, and others, according to a press release.

Launched in 2013, ABA English offers lessons alongside proprietary films about life in Europe and the United States that teach vocabulary in context. The company claims to have 10 million users in 170 countries, and it plans to use the funding for further international expansion, especially in China and Turkey.

ABA English has received a number of honors, including Best Educational App 2015 from Reimagine Education and, according to the company, the distinction of being the first online school authorized to issue official Cambridge English certificates.
