AMID TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, the Universal Service Administration Company (USAC) has extended the deadline to apply for E-Rate funds from April 29 to May 26, Politico reports. The E-Rate program provides federal subsidies for libraries and schools paying for wireless Internet. As the deadline approached, a number of groups notified the Federal Communications Commission that they encountered substantial technical problems with the agency's new application portal. USAC, which is charged with administering the E-Rate program, will open another application window for libraries and groups of school districts that will remain open until July 21.
