UC Berkeley Hacked, Financial Data from 80,000 Possibly Stolen

Feb 26, 2016

GONE BERSERKELEY: University of California Berkeley officials have sent alert notices to roughly 80,000 current and former faculty, staff, students and commercial partners notifying them that their Social Security and bank account numbers may have been compromised. The university recently discovered that someone gained access in December 2015 to the Berkeley Financial System, which Berkeley uses for much of its non-salary payments. University technicians were in the process of repairing the system at the time. The university will provide those affected with a year's worth of free credit monitoring.
