Academic Merit raised $1.24 million in a round that closed in December 2015. (The organization had previously raised $300,000.) The organization offers a suite of Common Core aligned online professional-development, assessment, instruction, and learning tools for teaching literacy to students in grades 6-12. It is based near Portland, Maine. Its directors list includes some leading educators including founder H. Odgen Morse, Linda G. Roberts, Gee Kin Chou, and entrepreneur Steve Shapiro. Investors include Maine Angels, Red Bear Angels, John B Goodrich, Japan's EduLab and others. The product is used in Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and Florida schools. Details here.
