Maker Media Lays Off 17 Employees

Jan 10, 2016

MAKER BRAKE: The Making business is not always fun and games. Maker Media, the iconic company behind Make Magazine and Maker Faires has laid off 17 employees—roughly 20 percent of its team, according to TechCrunch. Josh Constine reports that across the tech industry, “little ponies” and unicorns like Evernote are slashing staff. Make Media’s foray into social networking hasn’t turned out to well, Constine suggests.

Maker Media, which has raised $10 million in venture funding, isn’t the only "maker" company cutting back. Last year Makerbot, the creator of 3-D printers, went through two rounds of layoffs.
