BUILDING BLOCKS: Scholastic has published a blog post from Alycia Zimmerman, a 3rd grade teacher in New York City. Her post has all of the major math M's: multiplication, mean, median and mode. It's also got one big L: LEGO. Alycia, who believes that LEGOs “aren’t just for playtime,” uses LEGO blocks to teach her students the fundamentals of math, specifically part-to-part thinking, spatial reasoning and even fractions. She's telling other teachers to do the same—even if they weren't "LEGO kids," as she calls them, growing up.
