CollegeDekho Raises $1M Seed Round to Match Indian Students With Colleges

Nov 30, 2015

COLLEGEDEKHO announced a $1 million seed round led by Girnar Software, an IT company. CollegeDekho makes a platform for students to choose the college that best fits them by matching their interests with colleges' course listings. Though now only a browser platform, the company plans to launch an app and a more in-depth profiling system in December and expand its marketing. CollegeDekho's founder Ruchir Arora claims that all 5,000 of the company's downloads have come without a marketing budget.

Tech in Asia estimates that there are some 35,000 colleges and 30 million matriculating students in India. "If students are equipped with enough information, they can make more intelligent decisions on education," Arora told Tech in Asia. “Most sites want you to already know what you’re trying to do. We focus on things like aptitude, abilities, constraints, etc."

Girnar is the parent company of other "dekho" ("look" in Hindi) companies—CarDekho and PriceDekho.
