EARLY READING GAPS: Since so much of young learning happens at home, five-year-olds enter preschool with a wide range of developmental stages. Common Core state standards, however, suggest that these young learners should master skills that include recognizing words and reading beginner texts--demands that some educators call detrimental to students’ development, as Mindshift reports.
