TOO COOL (PERFECT FOR SCHOOL): Ding ding! We've got our favorite edtech teacher and administrator tools for the week right here, as highlighted in our Instruct newsletter! Our fave S'Cool Tools are:
*Free! With HaikuDeck, your students can remember recent lessons and create their own through this simple tool for elegant presentations. Any user can create beautiful decks--no design experience necessary--and view those created by others. Check out slideshows on topics from flipped classrooms to staying on top of college sports, or get started on a virtual arts and crafts project yourself!
*Free! The jingling of the ice cream truck is right around the corner. This summer, the Fudgsicles can come with a chance for students to practice personal spending. Money As You Grow, an initiative recommended by the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability, provides activities and lessons to help different age groups learn how to budget and spend wisely, from understanding that we sometimes have to wait and save up for what we want (designed for learners ages 3-5, but valuable for all) to understanding how to buy health insurance.
*Free! Leave your push pins and glue sticks at home. Padlet acts as a virtual poster board, enabling anyone to post content and share it across users and devices. Design your own strategy for tackling the week, contribute to a list of must-visit local restaurants, or help your students create a class summer travelogue.
*Freemium: Make sure your students come back to school with a detailed answer to the question, “What did you do this summer?” Write About This enables students to respond to prompts, keep a Writer’s Notebook, or integrate photos/audio to put together an interview. Use prewritten options, write prompts, or ask students to create their own. The app features a limited free version (50+ leveled text and voice prompts), or a $3.99 version (375+ text and voice prompts).
