NovoEd Raises $4.8M Series A to Build Better MOOCs

Jun 2, 2014

NOVOED: After VentureBeat reported that NovoEd filed a $2 million raise, NovoEd CEO Amin Saberi confirmed to EdSurge that his company has raised a total of $4.8 million in a Series A round led by Costanoa Ventures. Other participating angels, funds and partners were not disclosed. Founded in 2012 at Stanford University (ground zero for MOOCs), NovoEd is attempting to create online courses that foster more social interactions between students and teachers.

"We are thrilled to be able to pioneer new ways of engaging students online by enabling them to collaborate with their peers on meaningful projects," Anne Trumbore, senior course designer at NovoEd, tells EdSurge. NovoEd currently lists 16 university and research partners, and beginning in September 2014 will offer hundreds of paid courses that cover "basic mathematics at college level to executive education and corporate learning," according to Saberi.
