YOU GOT GAMED: While computerized grading systems promise efficiency and cost savings, according to MIT researcher, Les Perelman, gaming the system is much easier than you’d think. Based on his experiments with BABEL, a Basic Automatic BS Essay Language Generator, all it takes to earn top scores from the computer are long sentences and big words. While "robo grading" prove imperfect, the need is great. Common Core’s increase in number of open response and essay questions has those giving the tests hoping for a more efficient alternative to human scorers.
