COMMON CORE CONFUSION? It's getting serious, folks. Bill Gates weighs in on "Common Core Myths," in USA Today. "I want to explain why Common Core is among the most important education ideas in years," Gates writes. His points:
- Common Core was developed with support from governors, school officials and yes, teachers;
- Common Core won't "necessarily add to the number of annual state tests students take";
- Common Core standards don't aim to limit teachers' creativity and flexibility; they're just standards.
The essay follows a commentary last week by Vicki Phillips, director of Education, College Ready, on "Common Core Momentum." Want to weigh in? The Gates Foundation is using the hashtags: #commoncore; #CCSS; #StopTheMyth
