HIGHER-ED HORIZON: The latest predictions from the meteorologists at the New Media Consortium (NMC) on upcoming higher-ed trends and their timetable for adoption: flipped classroom and learning analytics (less than one year), 3D printing and games (two to three years), and virtual assistants and the "quantified self" (four to five years.) The last one "describes the phenomenon of consumers being able to closely track data that is relevant to their daily activities" through the use of "smart" watches, wristbands, necklaces--and other wearables. This latest report in the Horizon series also includes a makeover: It's a bit longer, but it also identifies trends that will help accelerate edtech adoption along with "wicked challenges" like keeping universities relevant.
