New Science Standards for California

Sep 8, 2013

BEAKERS UP: It's official. California will adopt Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), joining the likes of Rhode Island, Maryland, Vermont, Kansas, and Kentucky. Like their Common Core (CC) counterparts, they aim to provide all states with science standards that are up to date, focus on depth over breadth, and integrate engineering into the canon. California is the largest state to adopt the standards and will begin rolling out a timeline for implementation in the near future.

Also like their CC counterparts, the NGSS has not come without criticism. Critics like The Fordham Institute critique the lack of breadth and heavy focus on engineering. Check out this report to see how other states measure up against NCSS.
