Chicago Parents Protest Standardized Testing

Feb 7, 2013

MORE THAN A SCORE: Parents from 37 Chicago schools protested standardized testing this week by signing a freshly written petition, "More Than A Score." The move underscores solidarity for Seattle teachers who have been protesting against standardized testing for about a month.

The Chicago petition makes three demands:

  • Drop standardized testing altogether for children ages Pre K to second grade--and reduce it significantly for third grade children.
  • End the use of standardized test data for evaluating educators and for guiding school reports.
  • Disclose how much money and time are spent on standardized testing--as well as the purpose of tests and data gathering.
