POOR SCHOOL REFORM RESULTS: Lackluster results from the $3 billion investment (under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) devoted to school turnaround, according to a report in EdWeek. Two-thirds of the underperforming schools made some improvements in math or reading scores. But "...another third saw student achievement decline in their first academic year, according to an analysis by the U.S. Department of Education," writes EdWeek. Everyone is already trying to spin--oops, sorry, interpret--the data differently, leaving EdWeek calling the results "a mixed picture."
