Disney Accelerator Startups Mix Education and Entertainment

Disney Accelerator Startups Mix Education and Entertainment

Oct 14, 2014

WHERE DREAMS COME TRUE? On Oct. 14, the Magic Kingdom, with the help of Techstars, wrapped up the first class of the Disney Accelerator. The 15-week program is aimed for "entertainment" startups but a summary of the 10 graduating companies suggests learning tools also fit the bill. (Each startup received mentoring from Disney's wide network of companies along with $120K in funding.) Codarica teaches coding through games; Smart Toy offers a cuddly learning toy for kids; Sphero built a robot that can teach STEM in the classroom. Is this a sign that "edutainment" companies are back in vogue?
